(Stafford Springs, CT)---For Springfield, MA native Scott Allen, the road he is taking to Stafford’s SK Light Modified division for the 2013 season is a unique path.  Allen has worked for years in the pits as a crew member for various teams at both Stafford and Thompson, but his driving background differs greatly from that of most rookie competitors.  Allen has some background in Late Model racing, and has even driven in several World of Outlaws Sprint Car events, but for the past 10 years, Allen has spent the majority of his racing time behind the wheel of USHRA Monster Trucks.

“I grew up at Stafford and Thompson working on cars, mostly with Tom Fearn’s Late Model team at Stafford,” said Allen.  “I’ve worked with the Pasteryak’s on their modifieds and with Peyton Sellers on his K&N Pro East Series team, and I’ve raced monster Trucks for the past 10 years.  I’ve driven Mardi Gras Monster, Gina Lynn, Monster Mutt, which was the most famous truck I’ve driven, and now I’m driving Monster Mayhem, which is owned by Steven Baron.  This year will be a limited schedule with the truck since the focus will be on the SK Light.”

Allen will have one of the more noticeable cars on track during the 2013 season, with sponsorship from Rockstar Energy Drink, a relationship that dates back to Allen’s Monster Truck days.

“I’ve been together with Rockstar Energy Drink for 8 years now,” said Allen.  “The relationship started when I was driving the Gina Lynn truck and I’ve been able to maintain a great relationship with them over the years and they’ve always taken care of me.  I know a lot of people are going to see Rockstar on the car and think we have unlimited dollars, but we’re racing on a budget this season. We have Boyce Construction and Four Seasons Hearth & Home on board with us as well and we’re searching for a few more sponsors that can help us out this year with things like tires and fuel.”

Although this will be Allen’s first time behind the wheel of an open wheeled modified car, he feels like his crew member background will give him a leg up on getting to grips with his new Troyer chassis car.

“I’ve been around circle track racing and modifieds for a long time so I’m hoping that we’ll be able to pick things up pretty quick,” said Allen.  “I’m really excited about getting started this year.  I’m used to jumping 30 feet in the air and sometimes landing upside down, so hopefully the SK Light experience will be a nice Friday night drive.  One thing is for sure, I’m looking forward to being able to get out of the car without any whiplash for a change.”

Allen and his Rockstar Energy Drink team have their sights set on taking home SPAFCO Rookie of the Year honors this season with an eye on one day making the move up the modified ladder at Stafford into the SK Modified® division.

Allen hopes to keep his SK Light from landing on its roof like he did here in his monster truck..

“Our goal for this year is to win Rookie of the Year, and we’d like to get at least one win,” said Allen.  “Most of all, I want to be able to earn the respect of my fellow competitors on the track and we want to be competitive.  We’re racing on a budget, but we’re not going to go out and just ride around, we want to be contenders.  I think my background will definitely help ease the transition into the modifieds and coming up with a good setup so I can focus mostly on the driving aspect.  We want to learn as much as we can this year to come back strong in 2014 and after that, if things come together, we’d like to see if we have what it takes to try the SK Modified® division.  Everything seems to have come together and fallen in my lap this season and this will be the realization of a lifelong dream for me to be racing in a modified.”

The 2013 season at Stafford Motor Speedway kicks off in grand style with the 42nd Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler on April 26-28, 2013.  Tickets for the “Greatest Race in the History of Spring” may be ordered by calling the Speedway Box Office.  Tickets are priced at $38.50 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
