LIMITED LATE MODEL POINTS LEADER JOSH WOOD LOOKING FORWARD TO DOUBLE DUTY NIGHT THIS FRIDAY AT STAFFORD SPEEDWAY
“Our strategy is going to be to use extra caution during the first race because you don’t want to miss the second race,” said Wood. “We’re going to be starting in the back and 15 laps isn’t a lot of time to get to the front. So we want to stay out of traffic, miss the wrecks, and finish as close to the front as we can. I’m looking forward to it, it should be a fun night. It’s an opportunity for us to pick up some more points. This Friday is going to be very important for the championship. If one of us wrecks in the first race, anything could happen points-wise. If we miss a race, that would be terrible and someone who is third or fourth could come out leading in the points chase.” “This year has been way above and beyond what we expected,” said Wood. “At the start of the year, I was thinking maybe a win or two. Our car is getting better and better every week. 6 wins is really just a number. All you need to do is look at the points standings and you can see wins aren’t going to make the championship. It’s all about consistency, and that’s what is making this year fun. Cory is always consistent and even if I get 10 wins, Cory or David could win the championship. All it takes is one bad race. If Cory, David, and me all get into a wreck, Duane [Provost, 4th in points] could end up leading the points if he wins that race.” The mantra of caution that Wood will carry with him during this Friday night’s twin 15-lap features is one that Wood will carry with him throughout the second half of the 2012 season as he looks to keep himself at the top of the points standings.
